S.T. Dupont Place Vendôme Lighter & Pen Set

Luxury Leisure: S.T. Dupont, makers of the $79,000 white gold and diamond lighter we wrote about recently that's the world's most expensive, have come out with an equally luxurious lighter inspired by classic Parisian architecture. The famed French firm's Place Vendôme limited edition Ligne 2 Prestige rose gold and diamond lighter and matching pen pay homage to Paris' storied square of that name, commissioned by King Louis XIV. Defined by its majestic proportions and a strong sense of symmetry it's one of the most emblematic examples of French 17th century architecture.

In 1810 following his victory at Austerlitz, Napoleon enriched the square by erecting the Vendôme Column, made using bronze from cannons left behind by the Austrians after the battle. The luxe lighter, priced at $47,000 and limited to 35 pieces, echoes the appearance of the buildings in the square, while the matching pen reflects the column. Napoleon's famous quotation is engraved on the lighter's roller and on the body of the pen: "Impossible n'est pas français" (Nothing is impossible for the French). The lighter is set with 192 diamonds, and the pen is set with 160 diamonds. S.T. Dupont was founded in Paris in 1872, 60 years after Napoleon erected the column.
